Prophecy and the Spirit of Divination

In the Body of Christ, there is currently a craze for the prophetic or a despising of it. And, for the latter — it is with good reason. So much damage can come from the misuse of the prophetic gift or a lack of discernment as to what is NOT from the Spirit of prophecy. 

As a matter of fact, a lot of what we see today in ministry or with any believer, is an attack of divination. What many think is the prophetic flow in operation could actually be originating from a false spirit and anointing.  

It is crucial to be educated on discerning between the Spirit or gift of prophecy and an evil spirit of divination. This is what I will briefly cover in this post.

WHAT IS A SPIRIT OF DIVINATION?

A spirit of divination, symbolized by a python serpent, is an evil spirit mainly responsible for false prophecy, false visions and deception.

Now it happened, as we went to prayer, that a certain slave girl possessed with a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much profit by fortune-telling. 

~ ACTS 16:16 

The Greek etymology for ‘divination’ here is python. 

The python spirit was a serpent worshiped at the oracle of Delphi, dedicated to the false god Apollo. This serpent was also said to have guarded this temple. 

Some of the common signs you may have come under the grip of this spirit, include…

• Throat problems

• Respiratory (breathing) issues

• Panic attacks

• Regular cycles of sickness (including fever, nausea, flu / colds) 

• A pattern of financial issues 

• Spiritual lethargy (struggle with prayer life / bible study) 

• Spinal or back aches, especially the lower back 

• Other joint pains

• Regular migraines or headaches 

• Insomnia

• Constantly feeling like everyone is against you (with no evidence of that)

These symptoms can easily be overlooked as spiritual problems and instead be seen as natural ones.

Which doors give this spirit grounds to enter your life?

1. Being in a Jezebelic environment (this includes a religious organization whose environment may be laced with Jezebel’s influence).

The python spirit operates with the Jezebel spirit. False prophets are under the influence of Jezebel and prophesy under the false anointing of the python spirit.

2. When you are the one entertaining Jezebelic traits

3. Receiving false impartations

This can happen when you receive prayer, prophecy, advice, or come into agreement with dreams and visions from someone else, who has this spirit operating in their life. Please understand that this does not only apply to someone who is a minister. This is why you need to test all things. 

4. Reading horoscopes

Horoscopes and fortune-telling are forms of divination that seek to replace the voice of God in your life. This is idolatry and opens you up to this wicked spirit. 

5. Experimenting with all other forms of witchcraft 

6. Involvement in false religions (Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Catholicism, etc.)

Any belief or religion that worships something other than the true Living God, Jesus Christ — the Way, TRUTH, and the Life, stems from this spirit of divination.

7. Yoga, reiki, demonic dances, and other eastern forms of meditation

Many Christians think these practices are harmless but the origins will already tell you the opposite. Make no mistake, you will most certainly open the door to a spirit of divination once practicing these.

If you have a prophetic or seer gift, or you are Christian who believes they are hearing God’s voice regularly, but have noticed the above signs in your life or realize that you have opened up these doors at some point — it is very important to go through a process of repentance and deliverance.

Without that deliverance and cleansing process, the dreams, visions, or prophetic words you receive will likely be false. 

And as a prophetic person or minister, releasing visions, prophecy, counsel, or prayer to others may contaminate them and leave them in a worse state than before.
